Meet the creator of AC.Aspiringcounsellor..

Hi guys, I thought I would hop on and just share a few things about myself, My name is Georgia-Mae I am 21 years old, and I currently work in the health and social care sector. Which I have done for around 4 years now. While in college I volunteered in multiple different healthcare settings while completing a Certificate in Level 3 health and social care. Once I left college I started working in a residential care home to gain experience and knowledge. After a year of working throughout the pandemic, I decided I wanted to broaden my horizons and gain a degree. I started The Open University in 2021 studying BA (honours) in Adult health and social care, after completing this year I knew my focus was on mental health so I decided to bank my Level 4 Certificate in Adult health and social care. I then changed my degree path to BSc (honours) in Psychology, which I LOVE.

Once I realised mental health was my focus, I felt like I was not getting this degree for my future, I was in fact completing it as it fascinated me and became my passion.

Fast forward to July 2023, I passed my first year of the Psychology degree and was over the moon. Throughout the year I became interested in becoming a Counsellor but I was unsure where to start. I sought advice from other students on my module at the time and they told me to have a look into CPCAB training courses. I found this path suited me better, I was debating what to do regarding my degree and the counselling training and took the jump and applied for the CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills, and I made the right decision. I have now deferred a year at University to find my feet in my counselling training, with working full time I wanted all my focus to go into the counselling training and I believed that doing both second year University and the training would be too much.

I am never one to follow my dreams, but I am so glad I took the jump into doing so as it has opened so many doors for me already and will continue to do so. I am excited to learn, to attend my sessions, and to develop my skills focusing on my future/dream career.

If I can do it, so can you.

Thank you for taking the time to read my little journey so far, it's great to have you here.

Georgia
